ندوة
السباحة لمتلازمة داون
دبي
13th May 2011

Swimming has long been recognised by parents, teachers and coaches to be a sport which people with Down Syndrome can enjoy as a recreational activity and also one in which they can be competitive. Competitive opportunities exist within the programmes of Special Olympics and also Inas the International Organisation through which people with intellectual disability can access the Paralympic Games. However, a number of years ago we realised that swimmers with Down Syndrome were being outclassed in competition by other people with intellectual disability who did not have the same functional disabilities that are often associated with Down Syndrome. For this reason the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organisation (DSISO) was createdand the first ever World Championships swimming event for persons with Down Syndrome took place in 2002.
We have now held Five World Championships and more than 30 countries on all five continents are now involved.
To explain how we work and the opportunities offered through DSISO we have organised a Seminar which we hope you will be able to attend.
